Myanmar state media reported that the Chinese leader pledged to support the reconstruction efforts of Myanmar after a major earthquake in late March killed more than 3,700 people.The Chinese leader also said he would help Myanmar end its internal conflicts, as the two leaders discussed bilateral relations and the enhancement of comprehensive cooperation to support regional peace and stability. The talks took place in Moscow, Russia, on May 9, while the two leaders were attending the 80th anniversary of Victory Day celebrations hosted by Russia. This was the first time the Myanmar junta leader had met with the Chinese leader since the Myanmar military seized power in a coup four years ago.
